We Need To Beat Bottom Of The Table Sides - Hopkins
Sphinx Boss On Draw At Heather
Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins has said that his side need to be taking the full three points off the sides at the bottom of the table if they want to push for a top sixth place after Saturday’s game at Heather St Johns saw them pegged back to a 3-3 draw.
Hopkins told the Sphinx website: “ It was a case of strange results and mixed emotions after the game.
“Beforehand, to go away from home and take a point is not too bad,. But Heather are bottom of the league and if we want to be towards the top six, we need to be going to games like that and coming away with three points.
“I understand they have a new manager who added a couple of players but we should still be getting three points and when we do, we will be a top six side but we are consistent enough at the minute. ”We started slow but managed to take the lead through Kiam Galdins and should have really had two or three more before half time, which would have killed the game off.
“But, we came back out after half time and again in the second half, we didn’t start and never got into the game. A couple of half chances came and went and with ten minutes to go we found ourselves 2-1 down and at this point I would have taken a point and gone away thinking that we have saved a point. ”We brought on Aden Moore and he made an instant impact with a great goal from thirty yards out into the top corner, showing why he doesn’t want to be sat on the bench.
“2-2 and we are in the game and another impact substitute in Adam Bilic increased the tempo and the desire to win, who then pops up back post and rolls the ball calmly past the keeper.
“3-2 up. Perhaps we can play very poor and win? No. Heather kicked off in injury time and clipped one ball forward. We switched off allowing their wide man to roll the ball in the corner with no chance for Carlo and two points slipped away.
“Hopefully its a wake up call, because if you want to progress as a team , you need to be winning and picking up three points away at sides bottom of the league. “
