Ward boost for Sky Blues

Coventry City have been told that Elliott Ward will be able to feature in next month's opening Championship fixture of the season against Barnsley, despite being sent off in the pre-season friendly against Northampton Town.

It had been feared that the defender would face a one-game ban and miss the Tykes clash.

However, the Football Association has ruled that Ward can serve his suspension for a non-first team game, so will miss the first reserve team match of the season against Stoke City on August 2.

The 22-year-old former West Ham United defender was dismissed for deliberate handball against the Cobblers.
