Trust - We'll fight this every step of the way

Protest At Sixfields Today at 5,30pm We’ll fight this every step of the way!

‘We’re going to fight this every step of the way!’ is the response of the Sky Blue Trust to news reports that agreement has been reached for Coventry City to ground share with Northampton Town FC. Trust spokesman Moz Baker explained: “We know supporters overwhelmingly oppose any move out of Coventry and the Trust's view is simple: it is unthinkable that CCFC play home games outside the City in which we were founded and is our home; large numbers of fans will not attend 'home' games that are not played at the Ricoh Arena; a move away from Coventry will have a hugely detrimental effect on CCFC; and while the owners suggest the move will be ‘temporary’ and a ‘new’ ground will be built, there is no evidence that a planning application for a new stadium being submitted never mind permission being obtained”.

Many fans now believe that CCFC will never again play in Coventry, spelling the death knell for the club. But the Trust believes the battle to keep Coventry in Coventry is just beginning. “There’s a long way to go in this and we are encouraging City fans to contact the Football League, Northampton Town FC and even their local MP, telling them exactly what they think of the ground share idea”.

The Trust itself will be stepping up its ‘Keep Coventry in Coventry: NOT ONE PENNY MORE!’ campaign beginning today (Thursday 4 July 2013) 5.30pm at Northampton’s Sixfields ground as the first step in making the opposition of fans heard.

Today’s event will build on the hugely successful protest the Trust held at the Ricoh Arena at the weekend in which a ‘statute’ of owner Joy Seppala was unveiled* , comparing the achievements of Jimmy Hill’s 1960s Sky Blue revolution with the current owner’s plan to move home games out of Coventry. It’s a light hearted way of conveying the very serious message that we must keep Coventry in Coventry.”
