Sky Blues turn to Boothroyd
20 May 2010 - 14:47:44
Coventry City have confirmed Aidy Boothroyd has signed a three-year deal to become the new manager at the Ricoh Arena.
The Sky Blues were without a coach after Chris Coleman was dismissed at the end of a topsy-turvy campaign, but Boothroyd arrives from League One outfit Colchester United after the two clubs agreed a compensation package.
After starting his managerial career at Watford in 2005, Boothroyd guided the Hornets to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs where they beat Leeds United 3-0 in 2006.
However, the following season, they suffered an immediate return to the second-tier.
Things looked rosy at the start of the 2007/08 campaign as Watford raced to the top of the table, but they drifted down the league and were knocked out in the play-off semi-finals to Hull City.
In November 2008, he was relieved of his duties at Vicarage Road and ten months later he joined Colchester.
He guided them to a eight-placed finish last term and his progress with the unfashionable U's has interested Coventry chairman Ray Ranson and he will be hoping the 39-year-old can bring Premier League football back to the Midlands club.
