Sky Blues snap up O'Donovan

Coventry City have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland forward Roy O'Donovan on a three-year contract.

The 24-year-old Irishman will link up with the Sky Blues at the beginning of July, having struggled to make his mark with the Black Cats.

City boss Aidy Boothroyd told his club's official website: "As soon as I arrived, I saw that we needed competition for places in attack and Roy is chomping at the bit to be a success here.

"His opportunities at Sunderland were restricted but there is no doubting he can mark his mark on the Championship.

"He follows Gary McSheffrey by returning to club he was at during his youth and we're steadily building the foundation of a strong, driven squad."

The Sky Blues have also snapped up left-back Stephen O'Halloran on a one-year contract from Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland also has an option for a further 12 months if he impresses at the Ricoh Arena.
