Coventry City have launched an appeal against Ben Turner's red card in Saturday's defeat against West Brom at the Ricoh Arena.

The 19-year-old defender, who was making only his fourth appearance for the Sky Blues, was dismissed for serious foul play after a rash challenge on veteran striker Kevin Phillips.

After the match City boss Iain Dowie said: "With Ben it was a bad tackle, a booking, end of story. I thought a red card was very harsh."

Albion striker Diomansy Kamara was also sent off and Dowie added: "As for Kamara, it was late in the game so what's the point of sending him off - although having said that, there were one or two earlier issues."
