Sixfields To Submit Planning Application
Work To Start In February Hopefully - Cardoza
Plans are to be submitted tomorrow for the redevelopment of the Sixfields Stadium.
The stadium, being rented by Coventry City CEO Tim Fisher on behalf of the club's owners, is no better than a number of grounds in the Conference Premier Division with its tight, stands and lack of leg room but Northampton Town are developing the West (Main Stand) and East Stand (part of which is only used for City games when the visitors bring enough support),
Northampton Town Chairman David Cardoza told the Northampton Chronicle: “It is a quick turnaround of 18 to 30 weeks, and hopefully we start work in February. We are absolutely delighted.
“It is the biggest thing which has happened to the club ever. It will give us the opportunity to build a solid base over time, have a financially sound business and be able to put out a very good team on the pitch. The more money it generates, the more money you can put into the team, the better the team does, and more people come and watch.
“It feeds on itself. I am convinced it will work.”
The ground extension is part of a scheme which will see money from a £12m grant from Northampton Borough Council used to build a hotel, a gym and 300 houses on land around the Sixfields Stadium site.
