Pressley Wants Defenders In

City Boss Wants New Faces

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that he wants to bring in two possibly three defenders as soon as possible.

With only Jordan Willis as a recognised centre half left in the first team squad after Pressley off-loaded Richard Wood and Nathan Cameron and used the archaic isolation method once favoured by the likes of Gary McAllister, to dispose of Kevin Malaga and William Edjenguele, who expected to be sitting on their contracts until their expire after SISU are understood to have offered to pay them 20% of their contracts, Pressley is short of natural centre halves.

He told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “We can’t just be a pretty side, we have to be able to do the bread and butter defending in League One and for that you need strong centre-halves.

“We need to bring in two, if not three. We’re in negotiations and we’re getting closer so hopefully when the embargo is lifted we can wrap things up very quickly.”

“The situation is far from ideal and obviously when you speak to players there is a concern about that, but I think they will be willing to wait because they’ve bought in to what we’re trying to do here. I’m confident I can bring them in.”
