Points over praise

Praise is fine, but points more important. Andy Thorn takes his Coventry City side to Middlesbrough on Saturday and is hoping to come home with points. The last time he took his side to Middlesbrough he saw his side take the lead before losing 2-1 to a very late winner, but in doing so earned warm praise from Boro boss Tony Mowbray. Thorn has seen Coventry City lose by one goal on five occasions since he took charge of the side and in three of those games he has lost to very late, injury time goals. Thorn said, “Tony said some nice things about us last time and Sven said some nice things after the Leicester game and Lennie Lawrence said some lovely things after the Palace game but I get fed up with hearing things like that.” “It is nice and a compliment and I thank them for that but we want to start winning and we will be bold and attack and continue to have a good go. We gave them a good game up there last season and hopefully we can do the same again. Jordan Clarke hit the post and then they went and scored from a break-away, so we should have won.” He continued, “I am not going to shut up shop and run for cover. We are going to have a go at everyone we play against that’s for sure." "We are not going to sit back, we are going to go forward and play the way we want to play and if we fail doing it we fail because we are not good enough or the personnel aren’t good enough, but we certainly don’t think that’s the case. “When we are at it and playing we can match anyone in this league. It is important you don’t get bogged down and paranoid about it because that can become a massive thing, but you need to take your chances when you can." “It is a fine line between top and bottom and if you defend well and have someone who can take your chances at vital times it can change your season.”
