One of The Worst Games I Have Ever Seen - Robins
More from City boss
Coventry City manager Mark Robins delared that the 1-0 win at Oldham Athletic was one of the worst games he had ever seen.
The Sky Blues, who were bottom of the table for parts of the game, never got really going against an Oldham side which had run out of ideas quite early on and it was only when the Oldham defence were unable to deal wih a Jamie Reckord cross under press from Cody McDonald that City scored and left Boundary Park with a 1-0 win.
“I’ll take that any day," said Mark Robins who grew up in Oldham to Alan Poole for the Birmingham based Sunday Mercury.
“You saw two very nervous sides out there and for most of the game we just couldn’t pass the ball – it was awful at times. That tends to happen when you’re short of confidence because you tend to back off the ball.
“They’ve got some good players who made things difficult for us and the ball spent a lot of time in the air. We could have been punished – they hit the post – but we got our game together in the last quarter, scored with a well-worked goal and would have had another one if it hadn’t been for two great saves by their keeper.
“I’m just delighted for the lads and most of all the fans, because they’ve had to wait a long time for this and they won’t worry too much about the quality of the performance.
“I haven’t been back to Oldham for a while and I probably won’t be welcome back after that. But it’s a start for us and gives us something to take into Tuesday’s match with MK Dons."
