O'Donovan available to go on loan
McDonald could return if form improves
Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said he would like to strengthen his squad before the end of the January transfer window and hinted that he may be after another striker, but he is also looking to offload Roy O’Donovan, probably on loan in a bid to free wages.
Robins said, “There has been a bit of interest in Roy but that’s just been a conversation at the moment,”
Cody McDonald has already left Coventry to go to League Two outfit Gillingham on loan, but he could be subject to recall after 28 days if he starts to show some of the form that attracted former manager Andy Thorn to the former Norwich striker.
Robins confirmed, “If he turns round and starts smashing goals in and it suits me to bring him back after 28 days then I may do that. I have got to look after this football club as well as trying to help the player as much as I can, as long as it’s not to the detriment of us.
"At the moment it’s not so he can go out, but obviously he’s under contract to us beyond the end of the season so it’s in our interests to get him out to try to rediscover his touch. I have spoken to Cody and been honest with him. He’s going there to play and try to rediscover his goal scoring.
“He hasn’t quite done that here yet in the volume he did there before, but maybe if he can switch that on and come back and join in, but if he’s doing well there and we’re doing OK then he’ll remain there to the last game of the season. I’m hoping he does really well. We’ll keep tabs on him because he’s our player and it’s in both our interests to do well.”
