Northampton Hit Back At Policing Concerns
Northampton On Police Concerns
Northampton Town have hit back at concerns raised by a police officer that extra police will be needed for matches that Coventry City play at Sixfields.
The Cobblers have said in a statement: “We have been contacted by a number of concerned fans who have read the comments from Adam Simmonds. We are surprised that the police have “very real concerns about the possibility that significant extra policing might be necessary” to police League One football matches in Northampton.
“We were one game away from promotion to League One ourselves and had we managed to be promoted we would have been facing exactly the same teams who will be visiting Sixfields to play Coventry.
“We didn’t quite manage promotion last season, but we are hoping to move up to League One as soon as possible and it is concerning to us and our supporters that staging such matches might be an issue for the police.
“When we were last in League One in 2008-09 we hosted teams at Sixfields such as Leeds, Leicester, Peterborough, Millwall and Milton Keynes and we feel the more people who are attracted to come to Northampton for an event, the better for local businesses and the town of Northampton as a whole.”
