New crest unveiled

New crest for home shirts for one season only Coventry City Football Club have unveiled their new crest which will be used on their new home shirts for the 2011/12 season only. The release of the crest is part of the slow release of next seasons kit which is being shown on the web cam live from the club shop. Te idea behind the new badge is to pay homage to City's heritage history. It is a simple design featuring the usual elephant and castle standing on a football. It is an accurate reproduction of a crest used in match day programmes of the 1960's,  but it has not been used on a shirt before.   The new badge will only be used for one season and only on the home shirts. The traditional CCFC crest will continue to be used on all way shirts, match day programmes and other club merchandise. The official crest will then return the following season, although the new badge will appear on club merchandise during the 2012/13 season. Coventry City's head of retail, Justin Tose, said, "Most  supporters are beginning to guess that the kit will lean toward our heritage and that's great but we haven't revealed the whole strip yet." "I've spoken to a lot of fans about this over the past few weeks and months and people are really excited about the plans for using this crest. They also love the fact that we are looking back at our       history, particularly with the recent decision to build a statue in Jimmy Hill's honour and incorporating that theme into next season's kit." "More is going to be revealed in the next couple of weeks and we've been delighted by just how much interest our Kit Cam has generated on the website. Fans are slowly seeing elements of the kit revealed and so far the feedback has been extremely positive."
