Mac seal of approval for Morrell

Coventry City debutant Andy Morrell won the immediate approval of his manager Gary McAllister with his display in Wednesday's 2-0 Carling Cup victory over Peterborough United.

The 28-year-old arrived at Highfield Road on a free transfer during the summer after hitting 35 goals for Wrexham last season, and appeared as second half substitute against Posh as McAllister tries to ease him back into action after he sat out the pre-season schedule with a calf injury.

"I thought Andy was excellent when he came on and he gave us a real boost up the park when we needed it," the former Scotland captain told the Coventry Evening Telegraph.

"He was a constant threat and showed some good and clever movement. He has had a strange start at his new club and he has taken a bit of stick for being a holidaymaker for a good period, so he has responded well and I am very pleased to get him back."

Morrell's fellow debutants Graham Barrett and Dele Adebola scored the goals that took the Sky Blues into the second round.
