League One FTBpro PFA Fan Player Of The Year Contender: Callum Wilson - Coventry City
It has been a remarkable season for Coventry who, but for their ten points deduction, could have been looking at a possible play-off place.
They have deservedly beaten the drop against the odds and that has been due in no small part to the goalscoring exploits of Callum Wilson who rattled in more than 20 goals at a rate of much more than one every two games.
Little wonder that a number of clubs have shown an interest in the young striker, with Bournemouth the most recent to be linked with a player Coventry are obviously keen to keep.
The 22-year-old signed a new contract at Coventry last November to stay until the summer of 2015 and manager Steven Pressley has previously expressed his determination to retain Wilson’s services.
Wilson, who missed two months of the season with a dislocated but still weighed in with 22 goals, has distanced himself with a move away from Coventry and has assured City fans he will not jump ship this summer.
"I signed a new contract in November so I'm here for another two years," Wilson said. "It's all rumours and speculation so just let them carry on. As far as I'm concerned, I'll be here next season.
Before this season, Wilson had only started three league games for the club, since turning professional in 2009.
But, in a campaign in which the Sky Blues' promotion prospects were hampered by a ten-point penalty for the second successive season, Wilson's goals eventually ensured that Coventry remained in the third tier.
"At the beginning of this season, I was expecting to make 20 appearances and score around ten goals," he said. "I blew that out of the water. But I still think there is more to come from me."
