Le Fondre saga, latest

Striker could be available for £500,000 One of the players most frequently linked with a move to Coventry City, Rotherham's Adam Le Fondre, could be available for as little as £500,000 according to Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart. Mr Stewart has admitted that he wakes up each day with a different valuation figure for his striker. Coventry were thought to have had a £500,000 offer rejected by Rotherham, but it now looks as if no offer was made. Rotherham have rejected two bids from Sheffield Wednesday, an initial offer of £200,000 followed by a £250,000 offer, but Coventry are known to be interested in Le Fondre and are desperate for a striker now that one of theirs, Freddy Eastwood will be out for several weeks as he recovers from a hamstring injury, while fellow striker Lukas Jutkiewicz is also doubtful for the season opener on Saturday as he is recovering from a dead leg. The 24 year old Le Fondre is out of contract next summer ad if Rotherham are to benefit from the player they will have to sell sooner or risk losing him for nothing in a year's time. Mt Stewart said, "We wake up some mornings and feel differently about the price." "If we decide to sell Adam then we've got to go out and get someone else for that same value and that is why we've put the price at £500,000,  but I think there are two distinctions, one is having a business plan and one is having a football plan. Most honest chairman would say they would like to follow the football one." Mr Stewart saved the Rotherham from going into administration in 2008, but he believes there is value in keeping Le Fondre in the hope that he will help win promotion, which would be of more value than a fee should he be sold now. Stewart said, "The balance is that he is doing well with Rotherham United at the minute. We know what we have invested in him and I have no doubt that if no one approaches us again he will be in the team on Saturday and firing."
