Ian Wallace The Guest
Wallace The Match Day Guest for City V Crewe
Coventry City Legend and goal poacherextraordinaire Ian Wallace will be the Coventry City Former Player's Association’s special guest at our next exciting home game, the sold out regional final (1st leg) of theJohnstone’s Paint Trophy against Crewe Alexandra next Tuesday evening 5th February 2013.
Ian, like all of us, will be hoping to see a sufficiently large Sky Blue win to set us up for an aggregate victory after the seccond leg at Crewe in a fortnight – which will, of course, mean the Club will be at a Wembley Final for only the second time in its existence! (plus our Charity Shield appearance in 1987)
Ian needs little introduction to Sky Blues’ fans, being fondly remembered as a will o’ the wisp inside forward during the late 1970s, chiefly famous for the potent partnership he forged as the more delicate foil to forceful centre forward (and fellow CCFPA member) Mick Ferguson between 1976-80.
Ian was signed from Dumbarton and in the four seasons before departing in July 1980 (for one of the first over £1m transfers) to Nottingham Forest he managed a brilliant strike rate of 59 goals in 140 first team appearances as well as several Under 21 and Full caps for Scotland. After showing almost equally impressive form with the Forest from 1984 he tried his luck in France, Madeira and Australia (as well as Sunderland) before returning to manage Dumbarton from 1977-79.
Ian has proved to be a pretty regular visitor (and good friend to the Club and Association) in spite of him having to travel down from his home in Scotland. Though he couldn’t make last year’s Legends Day he was last at the Ricoh in December 2011 and joined CCFPA committee members in an ‘away day’ at Nottingham Forest in February 2012.
Look out for Ian around the Ricoh before (in the corporate lounges), during (on the pitch at half time and providing match analysis on CWR) and after (Lady Gs in the Casino) the game. Welcome Ian!!A number of other FPs are expected at this first ever Ricoh sell-out including: Dave Bennett, Ken Brown, Dietmar Bruck, Paul Culpin, Ron Farmer, Ian Goodwin, Micky Gynn, Marcus Hall, Peter Hormantschuck, Lee Hurst, Claus Bech Jorgensen, Brian Nicholas, Gordon Simms, Ken Satchwell, Kirk Stephens, Bill Tedds, Bob Wesson and Peter Wyer.
