I'm Not A Fan Of Loan Players - Pressley
City Boss On The Loan System
Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that he is not a fan of loan players.
Last Saturday's opponents Brentford, who had six players on loan from Premier League sides according to the programme, have used the loan system well this season as have clubs like Watford with their italian loanees. However, the City boss admitted not to being a fan of loans and told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: "I would consider it in the right area and with the right player but I’m not a huge fan of loan players.
“I would rather the vast majority of our team were signed to the football club but, in England, there is a great opportunity to get the right loan players.
“I’m not going to fill my squad with loan players but I certainly will be looking at that market.
“Sometimes the short-term loan can be good because you have a young player who is not quite ready to become back-up, and it might take two or three months for his physical development and then he’s ready to be back-up.
“For example, Blair Adams and young Ryan Haynes. I am hopeful that Ryan can very much become part of the first-team group next year but if he wasn’t then we could potentially get in a loan player until he was ready.
"If it’s for a position where you’re bringing in a player to play immediately in your team then sometimes it’s better to have them for a year because then he’s got a commitment to the club and feels part of it. It’s a bit like James Bailey, who every time you speak to him talks about this as his club.”
