I Jumped At The Chance To Play For City - Stewart
Jordan Stewart on his debut
Coventry City defender Jordan Stewart has said that he jumped at the chance to play for the Sky Blues.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner,Stewart who made his City debut on Saturday said: I was concerned I wouldn’t get a team,” he admitted. “I went to Notts County on a pay-as-you-play basis and then they offered me a contract after my last game on New Year’s Day but I couldn’t agree personal terms.
"I spoke to my agent after that to see what was out there but there wasn’t much coming back.
“I think a lot of the time there are young lads from Premiership teams going out on loan to the lower leagues for experience and that’s the way it works because it’s cheaper for the club and it’s good for the parent club to get their player first team experience. So when I did get the opportunity I jumped at the chance.
“I had a call from Lee Carsley who I know through my mate Joleon Lescott who was at Everton with him. He asked me what I’d been doing and if I would like to come down.
“There are a lot of people out of contract and I think it’s going to get worse over the next season or two but the opportunity to play at a great club like Coventry, I didn’t really have to think about it.
“I tried to keep myself in shape while I didn’t have a team. I was going to the gym every day and trying to maintain my condition. Luckily when I came in I had a couple of weeks to blend in because Carl Dickinson was playing and it gave me time to get my fitness levels up to standard.
“My personal objective is to keep the shirt and try to play as well as I can in every game to help push Coventry to the play-offs. And if I can help the younger lads with my experience along the way then great.
“I try to be a voice in the dressing room. I wouldn’t say I am a captain but if I see something that I think can benefit the players then I’ll give them advice.”Read More http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/coventry-city-fc/coventry-city-fc-news/2013/03/19/92746-33018121/#ixzz2NzEsyX3Z
