Doyle to miss City's kick-off

Coventry City expect midfielder Michael Doyle to miss the start of the new season following hernia surgery.

The 26-year-old Irishman played through the pain barrier towards the end of the recently completed campaign, but has been told he now requires four months on the sidelines following an operation.

"He carried on playing to help us through a difficult time," manager Chris Coleman told the club's official website.

"It's a shame he'll not be fit for the start of the new campaign."
