Coventry City striker Leon Best's two-goal display in the 4-0 thrashing of Barnsley earned him praise from manager Iain Dowie after the game.
Best had been expected to join Nottingham Forest last month, but has stayed put at the Ricoh Arena after the two clubs failed to agree a fee.
Dowie said: "I never wanted to sell Leon. He knows that.
"He said he wanted to go there because it is his hometown club, but they never matched the valuation.
"He has set his standards. He has shown it at West Brom and he showed it fleetingly at times against Manchester United.
"He put in a 90-minute display today and Barnsley found him too hot to handle."
