Coleman rues final scoreline
18 Feb 2010 - 15:21:09
Coventry City boss Chris Coleman believes his side didn't deserve to lose 4-1 to Newcastle United on Wednesday night in their Championship clash.
The Sky Blues took the lead thanks to Clinton Morrison's effort before the Magpies took control with Wayne Routledge and Andy Carrroll scoring.
Leon Barnett was dismissed for picking up his second yellow and Peter Lovenkrands scored the resulting spot-kick before Ryan Taylor completed the scoring.
The defeat sees Coleman's side sit in 11th place but he feels the scoreline fails to tell the story.
He said: "We had plenty about us in the first half and we deserved our goal to go ahead and maybe if we had gone into half-time a goal up, it would have been a different game.
"We just switched off for the second goal and you cannot do that against teams like Newcastle because they will punish you.
"That being said I thought we had plenty of endeavour about us and I think the scoreline was a bit deceptive."
