Coventry City have signed central defender Richard Wood from Sheffield Wednesday, initially on loan with a permanent deal to be completed in the new year. The 24-year-old rejected the offer of a new contract at Hillsborough and has opted for a move to the Ricoh Arena. City boss Chris Coleman told his club's official website: "Richard's been a long-term target for the club and we're pleased to have him here. "This is an area of the team that I've wanted to strengthen and this is a great addition to the squad in the short term and we'll look to make it permanent in January." Owls manager Brian Laws added: "Richard is a very good defender at Championship level and it is no secret that we tried very hard to keep him here by offering a long-term contract. "Unfortunately Richard did not want to accept the terms we offered him and therefore we wish him all the best for his future career."
