Club Founder's Great Grandson Against City Moving
Founder's Relative Against City Leaving Coventry
Ian Devoy, the great grandson of Singers FC founder Willie Stanley, has said that he will not be going if Coventry City play their home matches outside of Coventry.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mr Devoy said: “It means a lot to me and my family and I am absolutely appalled at what is going on.
“It appears to be a campaign of posturing with a view to whatever Sisu’s ultimate plan is.
“The supporters, of course, are the ones that suffer and I’ve been through the rigmarole of trying to get my away tickets from the opposition because I can’t buy them in my own city.
“So what’s gone on is appalling and I don’t see any justification for it. My own personal opinion is that whatever the rights and wrongs of the current situation Sisu, or whoever, should pay the rent and come to a suitable settlement, but to threaten to take the club out of Coventry is extremely worrying for the fans.
“I know many season ticket holders who are very upset and angry about what is going on and see no justification whatsoever in this, whether it is posturing or a realistic move by the football club. It’s absolutely appalling.
“I’ve been a supporter since the late 60s and had a season ticket since the 1970s and if they move out of the city I won’t be going to games.
“Not in a million years! I’ve signed the petition and as the Telegraph said when they launched their City Must Stay campaign this week the clue is in the name, it’s Coventry City Football Club.
“I am a football fan in general and I know the history of the Brightons and Charltons of this world who had to play outside their area, but they didn’t have a ground. We have got a ground and that’s the difference so there’s no justification for what’s going on.
“Even if it’s a scare tactic you can’t defend it because there are a lot of people upset and angry about their football club.”
