Clingan: I'm Proud To Wear The City Armband
Published : 09 Apr 2011 10:43:31
Clingan on being captain, injuries and last two matches Coventry City midfielder Sammy Clingan has admitted to being a proud man every time he wears the Coventry City captain's armband. "I've captained every side I've ever played for so I was really pleased to do it for Coventry," said Clingan to the CT's Andy Turner. "I don't know how long it will last but I'm proud to wear the armband whenever I'm asked. "I've been unfortunate with injuries the last couple of seasons but that happens in football so you just have to be mentally strong and deal with it. "It wasn't nice sitting in the stand because I'm not a good watcher anyway and you just want to be involved. "I was really pleased to get two ninety minutes under my belt with Northern Ireland. I hadn't started for a few games and it did get to me to be honest. "It was a nice change as well. Seeing the same players every day you can get in each other's faces a bit so to train with different countries is a good experience. "I've really enjoyed the last couple of games. "It's been great to be back on the pitch, the knees feeling good, we've played some good football and got a result against Watford. "We played well at Burnley and perhaps we thought we just had to turn up at Preston to get a result. But's it's never like that in the Championship - you have to dig in first before you can play and I thought we did that against Watford. "We looked at the videos from that game and we played some good stuff so you think to yourself ' that doesn't look like a team down at the bottom of the table' but the fact is that we haven't been good enough for part of the season and we know we've got to do better - nobody is thinking we have made it because we haven't."
