Coventry City striker Robbie Simpson faces up to four months on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring in the 3-1 victory at Stoke City earlier this month.
The 22-year-old had settled in well at the Ricoh Arena following his summer switch from Cambridge United, scoring twice in 15 appearances for the Sky Blues.
"We've had some bad news on Robbie," City boss Iain Dowie told the Coventry Evening Telegraph.
"He has a very, very extensive tear which is a blow for him because he's made an excellent impact at the club.
"He's a great lad and I think he'll become a very good centre-forward. It could be three or four months so it's a massive blow.
"But the lads will rally round him because he's been an integral part of the success we've had."
