City Joke Bidders Says Rotherham Chairman

Rotherham Chairman calls City's bid a joke Coventry City have been accused of being "joke bidders" by Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart. He believes that City's bid for Millers striker Adam Le Fondre which may or not have involved Clive Platt in part exchange was not a serious one and nothing more than a publicity stunt by the Sky Blues board. Stewart said to the Yorkshire Post: “Coventry came in with a joke bid a fortnight or so ago but I am sure they weren’t serious. “I got the impression it was more a case of them wanting to show their supporters that they were trying to do something." In recent times. there have been a number of instances where those in charge of Coventry City could be accused of allowing themselves to be interested in players such as Kevin Phillips or Darren Beckford to name but two, knowing full well they could not afford to land and pay the wages of such players in the hope of trying to look good in front of the club's supporters and trying to sell a few more season tickets.
