Boothroyd signals intentions

New Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd wants his side to make an immediate improvement on this season's mediocre Championship finish.

The Sky Blues ended the campaign in 19th position and, although Boothroyd isn't promising instant success, he believes it will come in time.

When coach of Watford, he guided an unfashionable team to the top-flight during his first full season in charge, but wants to make sure the threat of relegation is staved off initially in the Midlands.

"I think the first thing that we do is try to do better than we did last year," Boothroyd told Sky Sports News.

"No club wants to be in a relegation fight, so what we do is make sure we build on that and look to the future.

"We had a five-year plan at Watford to get to the Premiership and we did it in one. I'm not saying we're going to do that but what we are going to is we're going to build slowly and add to the good work that's been done already.

"If we can get somewhere around it in a couple of years time I think everyone will be happy. And if we can get closer than that earlier than that then people will be even happier."
