Boothroyd's new signing

City get new assistant manager Coventry City have appointed Martyn Pert as their new assistant manager to help Aidy Boothroyd. Pert was number two to Boothroyd when he was manager at Watford and Pert has resigned from The Hornets to rejoin his old boss at Coventry. Pert is a sports scientist and conditioning coach and Boothroyd is hopeful that he will be able to keep his players fitter and motivated and lead to better results on the field. Boothroyd said, “I am delighted to bring Martyn on board,” he said of his new right-hand man, who has joined on a three-year deal in line with his own. He was with me at Watford from the very start." "He’s a sports scientist and conditioning coach who spent time at Fulham before working with me. He studied all over the world looking at coaching and training methods during his university days and we came up with a system with the physios and coaches at Watford that worked." “We managed to keep players fit and put in a system of working that helped players over-achieve and got us promoted, and he was a big part of that so I just wanted to bring him in because I know that he will add protocols and processes that we don’t have at the moment. “We have got a lot of good people here but we just need everything brought together so that we can get the best out of everyone.” Pert's appointment will not affect the current backroom staff and Steve Harrison will remain first team coach and Andy O'Boyle as fitness coach. “Steve McClaren has got Bill Beswick and Jose Mourinho has got Rui Faria who is on similar lines who has studied physiology and understands movement patterns, but also understands football and can marry the two together," explained Boothroyd “A lot of the time football, sports science and the medical side can be fragmented and I want it to be more whole.”
