Baker out for five weeks

Midfielder has ankle ligament rupture

Coventry City's influential midfielder Carl Baker will be out of action for about five weeks after scans on his injured ankle showed a ruptured ligament.

City boss Andy Thorn can ill afford to lose any player for long as his squad is one of the smallest in the league and to lose one of his more senior and experienced players will be particularly galling.

However the news is not as bad as it may have been as both Gary Deegan is fit  again, although he has only featured on the bench and Richard Wood is back in training so could be ready to return shortly, although not in time for tonights home game against Blackpool.

On being told about the extent of Bakers'  injury, Thorn told the CT, “It never rains but it pours.

“We just want everyone back because the young boys have done well but they need looking after. Carl’s scan showed he’s got ruptured ligaments so he’ll be out for a while.

"We’re not sure how long at the moment, maybe four to five weeks I’d imagine, but he hasn’t got to have an operation and hopefully he’ll be a quick healer.

Looking for positive news though, Thorn continued, “Gary Deegan is back on the bench which is good and Richard Wood is back training as well so it is nice to have a couple of faces back.”
