Wood blow for Sky Blues

Coventry`s injury-ravaged squad has been dealt a further blow with the news Richard Wood faces around six weeks on the sidelines with a groin strain. City`s stand-in skipper, who has played at both left-back and centre-half this term, sustained the injury late on in Saturday`s 2-1 defeat at Preston and leaves the club desperately short of numbers. Caretaker boss Andy Thorn told the Coventry Telegraph: "He`s gutted. He`s been brilliant at centre-half and we`ve had to pull Cyrus Christie back from Hinckley (where he has been on loan)." In further bad news, experienced captain Lee Carsley has had to undergo another operation on his troublesome Achilles while it appears Ben Turner`s longstanding knee problem looks set to rule him out until the summer. Midfielder Carl Baker has also rolled his ankle in training and is already a doubt for the club`s first game back after the international break, at home to Watford on April 2. Martin Cranie (hamstring) is touch and go to make his return against the Hornets, while James McPake, Clive Platt, Gary Deegan, Isaac Osbourne and Danny Ireland all remain out. City are also unlikely to find the resources to add to their squad ahead of Thursday`s loan deadline.
