Westwood 'Touch and go' for weekend trip to Ipswich
Boothroyd ready to get emergency loan 'keeper Kieren Westwood chances of playing for Coventry City at Ipswich on Saturday are about 50-50 as he struggles to recover from freak injury. Westwood was hit in the face with a football from very close range during a training session with the Republic of Ireland squad. Scans proved he had not sustained any broken bones, but the injury is painful. The 25 year old goalkeeper returned to Coventry to receive treatment while his place in the Ireland squad was taken by City's next opponents goal keeper, Ipswich's Brian Murphy. Westwood will be assessed by Coventry's medical staff at their Ryton training facility and if they deem he will not have recovered then Boothroyd will look for to sign another goalkeeper on an emergency loan. However Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd is in confident mood and said, “I am confident he will be fit for Saturday." // '); // ]]> "He’s a tough lad and hopefully with a bit of luck and good treatment what he has got will be bearable by the weekend. He hasn’t lost any teeth or anything and although he’s going to be touch and go, because of the type of character that he is I am expecting him to be all right." “In a worst case scenario I would look to get someone in but I don’t expect to be doing that.” Explaining how Westwood managed to get injured, Boothroyd explained, “He got a ball in the face from three yards so it was a good save first and foremost, but he has had to come back because his jaw wasn’t quite right.”
