Tranmere Rovers boss Ronnie Moore was pleased that his side dug in and got the result.

Speaking to Tranmere Player, Moore said: “I can’t praise the lads enough. We weren’t at our best but we competed really well. They’re a good side, they passed the ball really well and they’ll be very close to promotion this year.

“We know we didn’t pass it as well as we can and we got off to a bad start for 20 minutes or so but we looked bang on for the last 20 minutes. It was a great bit of football for the first goal. Palmer with the step over and then Cass with the stepover and it took forever for it to roll in. Robbo got in where it hurts, got a toe on it and it trickled in.    “We’ve got to be pleased that we’ve dug in and got the result. You can’t always be like Real Madrid. We dug in when we didn’t have everyone at our best and that shows a lot of character from our players.    “I’ve got a good squad of lads, I wish I had more but at this time I haven’t got them. The supporters have been fantastic for us and they’ll see a wholehearted team having a go.    “It’s nice [to be top]. I wish it was May. We’re not getting carried away, we’re six games and it’s nothing. But it’s nice feeling.   “We’re greedy and we’ll be upset if we don’t [win on Tuesday], but Bury will be as tough as Coventry.”   More on this
