We Had To Improve After Poor First Half - Thorn

City boss on win at Kettering Coventry City manager Andy Thorn thought that his players needed to be read the riot act at half-time of City's 1-0 win at kettering Town on Saturday. Speaking to the CT, Thorn said, when asked what needed improving: “Everything really. "And I thought they went up about five levels. I felt we needed to step up a bit because there is a big difference playing for an hour rather than 45 minutes. “And they will play the full 90 at Chesterfield tomorrow night. "But it was another good workout after a hard week of training. “We gave the lads a little bit longer this time and the conditions were difficult because the pitch wasn’t the best for what we wanted to do, but it was a good test because there will be times in the season when we have to play on pitches like that, and that’s no disrespect to Kettering because they made us really welcome. “I wanted them to start the second half really well and take hold of the game and that’s what we did, and as soon as we got our rewards for that we made the changes we needed to. “It was a bit different because we couldn’t zip the ball about like we wanted to and we never really got to grips with it in the first half. "We fell between two stalls and it was important we improved in the second half which we did, and once we started playing a lot better and the way we know we can, we started to play a bit more, so I was pleased with that.” Thorn also said: “I am quite happy with where we are at the moment and we just need to get the two 90 minutes under our belts now and stay injury free, and then we will have the 90 minutes against Norwich and step it up that way. "And hopefully we will start getting a real feel for it in these next games. “There are two fixtures this week and everyone will get 90 minutes. "All the places are up for grabs at the moment and I told them that at half time because we needed to get back on it after being a little below par."
