Transfer deadline day set to be quiet

Ward may, or may not sign The transfer deadline ends today at 18:00 and Coventry City boss Aidy Boothroyd is not expecting to be too busy. He does hope to sign young Bolton striker Danny Ward on loan, bu face stiff competition for his signature. Last week it looked as if Leeds United had won the race for the 18 year old talented striker, but now it looks to be a straight race between Coventry City and Millwall. Bolton manager Owen Coyle has said that he is happy for Ward to go on loan to gain experience, but the player is keen to be certain that any move he makes is the right move. If Boothroyd fails to sign Ward before six o'clock this evening, he will continue to try to get him on on the emergency loan scheme which opens next week, but by then, he will have to prove to the authorities he needs another striker. The Marlon King saga continues unabated with all sorts of rumours going round. One such rumour is that he has already signed for Coventry, but the news won't be made public until later today, or even next week. As King is a free agent, he is not constrained by the transfer deadline rules and can sign for any club when he likes, so even if he hasn't signed for Coventry City, or any other club for that matter, he can do so when he wants to. King is still in training with the Sky Blues at the Ryton training ground and Coventry are the favourites to win his signature. The official attitude of Coventry City is that the King situation is 'ongoing' and no decision will be taken lightly, but it has become clear that Bothroyd is keen to have King in his side. The proposed transfer of winger Michael McIndoe to Southampton has fallen through after Saints manager Alan Pardew was sacked yesterday. City boss Aidy Boothroyd had said earlier this month that he expected some players to be leaving the club and McIndoe was one of those out of favour players rumoured to be on his way out. Unless there is is a very late and acceptable bid for City's 'keeper Kieren Westwood, he will not be leaving the club, not yet anyway. Boothroyd has given Westwood until September 11th to decide whether to sign his new contract and stay at Coventry or to run his contract down.
