Jennings - Time To Step Up

Coventry City midfielder Stephen Jennings feels that it is time for the characters in the Sky Blues changing room to step up.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Jennings said: “We keep getting knocked back down after a couple of good wins and at the point where we’re ready to kick on. Football needs character and we have a lot of characters in our dressing room and it’s time for them to step up, starting with the game at Bournemouth.

“I feel so sorry for the lads who have been here all season and played the majority of the games, and I feel sorry for Carso. But he doesn’t feel sorry for himself or us because he’s a very chirpy and positive person and he has told us go to out and win the remaining 12 games.

“He believes that it’s still not out of our reach to go and win the league. It’s a big ask but look at the likes of Yeovil and Bournemouth and the runs they’ve been on, and if we can get on one of those who knows what could happen?

“He thinks we’re capable of doing it because we create enough chances and says a team is going to get five or six past them one day. I hope that’s tonight.

“He’s got us on the front foot and in the first five minutes we came out of the traps really well against Crewe and I was out of breath more then than I was in the entire game.

“It was wave after wave of attacks and we created three or four chances in that first five minutes, then we got the goal but gave a sloppy goal away and we have only ourselves to blame for that.

“I’ll be honest, you can create as many chances as you like but if you keep giving gifts to other teams it certainly deflates you, especially considering how high up we are. We’re trying to bounce back but getting shot back down to earth after four minutes of being in the lead is frustrating.

“We have got 12 big games and we don’t want to be finishing the season thinking what could have been; on our holidays thinking it was hard lines with that many games to go, so the hard work starts now.”
