Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has admitted his sadness at the news of the death of Gary Speed on Sunday.

Speed and Thorn's sons both play for Wrexham's centre of excellence and the pair used to see each other at matches and the pair always shared a natter over a bacon batch.

Speaking to the CT, Thorn said: “It was very sad news,” said Thorn. “My boy Jack and his youngest boy play at the same club.

“They are at Wrexham together and every Sunday morning I would see him and sit and have a coffee and a bacon roll and talk about football.

“My lad is ten and plays in the Under-11s and Gary’s lad plays for the Under-13s. It’s so sad.

"I was only talking to him just over a week ago and he was telling me how much he was enjoying the Wales job and talking about different players and loans and the next minute that happened.

“I live up near him and used to see him most weeks with his dad and just used to talk about football and players we have seen.

“He was a lovely lad and I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word against him.

“He had a terrific playing career and it’s unbelievable what has happened. It puts everything into perspective.”
