Thorn In Plea For Calm
City boss concerned unrest could upset team Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has issued a plea to supporters of the club to exercise restraint in their protests against the owners Sisu. Thorn is concerned that the protests, which have arisen due to a failure of the club's owners to guarantee CCFC a future beyond the end of this season, may get out of hand and end up with fans being injured and that they will distract his players from doing their job properly. After the 2-0 home win over Derby County last weekend, where two separate incidents saw ugly scenes involving fans, stewards and the police, Thorn admitted that the disturbances had affected his players. In one incident stewards moved in to remove a banner proclaiming 'Sisu Out' which resulted in ugly clashes and some fans being ejected from the ground and in another incident in the Tesco stand, a fan was arrested by police amid yet more ugly scenes. Thorn later admitted to the CT: "It affected us at the time and I think it is important that everyone just calms down a bit. “I’m not just talking about the supporters, I’m talking everything to do with the club because if we are not careful it can become a runaway train gathering speed. “I am trying to focus solely on the pitch and the players and you want everyone to get along and be on the same side.” Despite the ongoing hostility toward Sisu, most fans are giving Andy Thorn and his side their full backing. He takes his side to Ipswich on Monday riding on a high after picking up their first win of the season and he is hoping that the travelling fans will be once again right behind the team. Reading are the visitors to The Ricoh next Saturday and Thorn has asked the fans not to repeat the protests, but to continue with their 'fantastic' support of their club. He said, “As I’ve said before, the supporters have been absolutely fantastic with me and the team.
