Thorn delighted with Coventry response

Coventry caretaker manager Andy Thorn revealed he tore up Aidy Boothroyd's tactics book before leading the Sky Blues to a well-deserved 2-2 draw at play-off chasing Burnley.

The Sky Blues parted company with Boothroyd on Monday following a run of one win in 16 games that plunged them towards the wrong end of the table. However, an intensive tactics session from Thorn later that day laid the foundations for an impressive City performance, as Lukas Jutkiewicz and Gary McSheffrey - the latter with a magnificent solo effort - struck in between a brace from Clarets forward Jay Rodriguez.

Coventry's three-pronged forward line of Jutkiewicz, McSheffrey and Freddy Eastwood caused Burnley a whole manner of problems, and Thorn praised his players for embracing the changes.

"I thought the boys were absolutely fantastic," he said.

"We changed quite a bit in a short period of time. We loaded a lot of information into them in one go and I thought they were awesome.

"For large periods of the game we were in control against a very good side pushing for promotion. I like the way we kept the ball, our work ethic was fantastic and they were a credit to the football club. I felt, maybe, we deserved a little bit more from the game. That's what we've got to build on, those are our standards and we have to go on from there."
