Thorn confident of win tomorrow
Top eight defensive record Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has been busy preparing his side a well as analysing the opposition ahead of Saturday's tea time kick off in front of the television cameras when Derby visit The Ricoh. Thorn,who has yet to lead his side to a win this season is in bullish mood and believes a win is possible even though Derby have made as an impressive start as Coventry have made a disappointing one. Thorn knows only too well how much of a boost three points would mean to his side and to the fans, not only to morale and for confidence, but to kick start their season and propel the Sky Blues up the league table. Coventry City were just about written off as relegation fodder before the season had even begun because of the size and amount of young and inexperienced players of the squad, but the main problem has been scoring goals rather than from the inexperienced players being overwhelmed. Their defence is among the best in the league, Thorn claims it to be a top eight defence, so if the team can find the net frequently and regularly, they will soon be climbing the table. Thorn said, “Hopefully we will get our points tally moving. I think if we get three points on Saturday we will be up and running." “I have been watching the young kids and they are really coming on and training has gone up a level. Everyone is flying so I think we are capable of getting three points anywhere." Thorn will probably pick his new striker Cody McDonald to Partner in demand Lukas Jutkiewicz up front on Saturday in an attempt at finding some of those elusive goals. He continued, “If we get three points on Saturday I think we will go on a little run then and then maintain it with wins and draws because they have got that in them now, which they never had before. I think we are just getting ready to have a proper go now." "In the past we have been flying out of the blocks at the start of the season but hopefully it will be different this time and we will build it up gradually.” He claimed, “Our defensive record is top eight at the moment so when I’ve said we haven’t got the points that our performances deserve, that backs it up. "We’ve looked at all the stats and we know we need to improve on getting goals but I just feel they are ready to go now. Three points will hopefully get us going and then we can put that into a consistent run and consistent season.” In stark contrast to Coventry, Derby started their own season with four wins on the trot, but lost their last game before the international break when they went down at home to Burnley. Thorn said, “They will be cock-a-hoop because they have started well so it is going to be a tough game for us, but I am confident in the boys’ ability.”
