Thorn can't wait for the fixture list to be published

City boss to look at last five games first Andy Thorn has revealed that he cannot wait for the fixture list to be published, but rather than looking to see who the first opponents are going to be, he will look at the final five fixtures of the season. Most of the cynics would assume that is because he expects to be in a relegation dogfight, but that is not Thorn's reasoning. He wants to check out the possible run in at the promotion end of the season. This will be the first time that the 44 year old Thorn has been manager when the new season's fixtures are announced. He is keen to continue with the impressive ten game run that began his managerial career which, if the side had maintained throughout the whole season would have left them challenging for a promotion place. I his more usual ebullient mood, Thorn said, “I’m looking forward to seeing the fixtures and the first thing I will look at is the last five games. I think they will be important for us at the end of the season, to see what our run-in is like." The Sky Blues boss also revealed a mood of optimism among some of his squad even before they start to reassemble for pre-season training on July 1st. “I have had six or seven of the boys text me over the last week all buzzing about getting back in to training on the 1st of July, and that doesn’t happen too often," said Thorn. "Everyone has enjoyed it so much that they can’t wait to get going again. They are all following their fitness programmes and they all want to hit the ground running. “I said to the boys when I took over that we will take it game by game rather than blocks of six or ten games and see how many points we have got. We had almost a quarter of the season in those last ten games and it just flew by.”
