--------------------------------

Coventry Sphinx battled excellently for a 2-0 victory at Coleshill Town.

Sphinx travelled to Pack Meadow on the back of a 4-2 home win over Tipton Town on Saturday.

Luke Hopkins made two changes to that team bringing Haden Wright with Liam McNally into his starting eleven.

On a decent evening, Coleshill opened with a fourth minute corner and another in the eighth minute.

Coleshill attacked and Travis fired at O'Neill and then sent a cross from the left wide.

It was not until the fifteenth minute that Sphinx had a shot on target and that came from keeper Carl O'Neill.

Kyle Rhodes screwed a shot in the 20th minute and then Cutting got into the area and was pulled down.

Referee Jon Walker awarded a spot kick which Kyle Rhodes duly dispatched to give Sphinx the lead.

Coleshill resumed their pressure with O'Neill getting down to smother a Connor Leak shot from the edge of the area but in the 28th minute, Sphinx went two goals up when Liam McNally sent over a cross which ended up flying high into the net.

Cutting and Rhodes both had shots on goal as Sphinx started to get to grips with the Coleshil midfield.

Four minutes before the break and Ashley Jackson cleared his lines for a corner which was sent wide.

McNally sent a free kick just over the bar and Cutting blasted wide as Sphinx went in two goals in front at half time.

Coleshill made a double change at the break bringing on former Sphinx Youth team Harry Clare and after surviving a penalty scare, Sphinx battled brilliantly, always looking for openings and every player working hard.

Rikki Cutting used his pace to win a 66th minute before O'Neill made a great save to deny Jake Murrall.

Tom Dyke won a 79th minute corner which was followed by a handball by Hullin which was not spotted by the referee.

Sphinx continued to look for a third goal with a Bannister toe poke going inches wide of the far post, but it did not come and Sphinx had to be happy with a 2-0 win.
