Coventry Sphinx were beaten 1-0 at home by Alvechurch in a Midland Alliance.

After their 2-0 victory at Coleshill Town on Tuesday, Sphinx were back in action with a home league game against Alvechurch.

Again, Sphinx were not the first to start and the visitors won a corner and had Scott Smith miss with a fifth minute header.

Five minutes later and Jazz Luckie broke but Sphinx keeper Carl O'Neill blocked with his legs.

Kyle Rhodes then sent a header from a free kick wide before Liam McNally and Matty Bannister went close with long range efforts.

Alvechurch won a 33rd minute corner and three minutes later, Sphinx went even closer with a corner.

With three minutes of the half remaining, Alvechurch took the lead when the Sphinx defence appealed for offside and Jazz Luckie stroked home from three yards,

There was no flag from the assistant and the goal was allowed to stand.

Ricky Cutting had chances either side of the break before Maher got down to push a 53rd minute Kyle Rhodes shot for a corner.

Another followed on the hour mark. In the 72nd minute, Cutting got through. Maher got down to push the ball across the face of the goal but with no-one following up, the chance went begging.

Sphinx might have had a penalty but it was not their night and they went down to a defeat.
