Sky Blues wait on Gunnarsson

Coventry midfielder Aron Gunnarsson looks set to miss the club's opening Championship game against Portsmouth with a back injury. The 21-year-old Iceland international suffered a muscle strain taking a long throw during the opening stages of the Sky Blues` pre-season clash with West Brom and is now doubtful for the season`s curtain raiser. City manager Aidy Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph: "It's touch and go but I will be surprised if he makes it for the weekend. "He damaged an oblique muscle on Saturday and obviously had to go off and we are taking it day by day. It will be disappointing if he does miss the game but the good thing is we have got a few options." Elsewhere, Boothroyd will decide on Thursday whether or not to sign French winger Francis Laurent, who has been on trial at the club since having his contract cancelled at cash-strapped Southend. He added: "I am still running my eye over him and will make my decision tomorrow (Thursday). But I am hoping to do something."
