Midfielder Sammy Clingan played the full 90 minutes of Northern Ireland's 1-1 draw in Poland on Saturday and is now readying himself for what will be a crucial qualifier against Group Three leaders Slovakia on Wednesday night. Team-mates Keiren Westwood and Leon Best did not feature in the Republic of Ireland's 2-1 triumph in Cyprus at the weekend but look set to be heavily involved in Tuesday's friendly against South Africa. Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has already sent some of his senior players back to their clubs, including Shay Given and Robbie Keane, and has hinted he will turn to some of his fringe players to face the 2010 World Cup hosts at Thomond Park. Elsewhere, Aron Gunnarsson played 80 minutes of Iceland's 1-1 draw against Norway but their qualifying campaign is now over having finished bottom after completing all of their matches.
