Sky Blues boss prioritises promotion

Coleman would take immense pleasure from Coventry emulating the achievement of Barnsley last season in dumping the Blues out of the competition.[LNB]But the former Fulham boss, the Championship manager of the month for February, has his eyes focused on the bigger and long-term picture and expects Coventry to be challenging strongly for promotion next season.[LNB]Coleman said: "If we won the FA Cup, it doesn't get us to where we want to be. The only way to get us where we want to be is via the league and that is the most important thing for this club.[LNB]"I expect to be challenging more strongly for promotion next season but we've got to have another good transfer window.[LNB]"We've had two good transfer windows. We've lost 16 players and eight have come in because the squad was big. There were 35-36 players when I arrived.[LNB]"Without being nasty, 25 of them weren't going to get us to where we want to be.[LNB]"So we said we'd cut the squad down in terms of quantity but had to improve the quality a lot and we've done that a lot.[LNB]"The eight we've brought in have done well but we have got to do it again in the summer. Even if we have barnstorming finish, in the next window we've got to do it again and get in another three or four more good players.[LNB]"Then we can climb a few more places. We are making progress. If we finish at least halfway, we've climbed quite a few places so then we've got to bridge that gap to the top six."[LNB]Coleman admitted his players were affected by the Chelsea game when losing at home to Sheffield United in midweek.[LNB]He said: "We've all got hangovers from losing to Sheffield United on Wednesday. We could have been five points off the play-offs and we missed the chance and I blame this game with Chelsea for that.[LNB]"Everyone I talked to in the days building up to Sheffield United was saying, 'Good luck for Chelsea'. I was thinking, 'We've got Sheffield United on Wednesday'.[LNB]"People were only half interested and that rubbed off on the players if you see the performance. If you had seen us last night compared to Saturday against Norwich, it was two different teams."[LNB]Coventry will be without full-back Daniel Fox who tweaked a knee ligament against the Blades.[LNB]Coleman said: "Fox is not going to be available which is a big blow because he has had a good season. He has tweaked a ligament in his knee.[LNB]"I feel for him because he has done as much as anybody. He is such a consistent performer, never misses training and games, and a massive game like this comes along and he is devastated.[LNB]"He deserves to play but he could be out for three to four weeks."[LNB][LNB]
