Sky Blue Trust: We welcome bids for CCFC which offer supporter involvement

07 June 2013 18:41
Trust Press Release This week is one of the most important in the history of the Sky Blues.  Supporters of the Club are desperate for some good news. Bids have been made to the Administrator to take ownership of the Coventry City Football Club.  The Sky Blue Trust are hopeful that a buyer will be chosen who will put the long-term interests of the Club and supporters first.

The Trust’s wants a Coventry City Football Club which has success on the pitch, is financially stable and rooted in the community. One of the Trust’s main aims is to “obtain an ownership stake in CCFC, giving supporters a direct say in the running of the Club and having at least one democratically elected Trust member on the CCFC Board.”

Our aims also say that we will “pursue any viable opportunity to gain an ownership stake in CCFC.”

We have been willing to meet and have discussions with any potential buyer and would welcome any bidder who puts the long-term future of the Club first.  We firmly believe that a successful future for CCFC depends upon supporter involvement in the ownership and running of the Club.

The Board of the Sky Blue Trust has made it clear that we would meet with any potential purchasers of the Club who wished to involve supporters. As yet only one potential purchaser has contacted us or publicly backed a supporters' stake in the club.  We have asked Joy Seppala to meet us to discuss the Club's future.  We have had no reply.

We have met Preston Haskell or his representatives several times, and they have confirmed over the past week that they are prepared to put 20% of the club in the hands of supporters. There are clearly further details of his offer that need to be discussed, but in principle, it is the kind of arrangement we would favour.

The Trust remains open to discussion with any potential owner who genuinely wishes to involve supporters properly in the ownership and running of the Club.

We also urge the Football League to ensure that the Club’s owners, whoever they turn out to be, ensure that the Club plays all its home games at the Ricoh Arena.
