City Boss On Draw At Wolves

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley felt It would have been a travesty not to have taken something out of Saturday's game at Wolves.

Aaron Phillips snatched an 85th minute equaliser for the Sky Blues with a stunning goal to cancel out Leigh Griffiths being allowed to give Kenny Jackett's side a 66th minute lead.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, Steven Pressley said: “It was a massive challenge and the one thing I didn’t want was one of those hard-luck stories where you play very well but lose.

"We came here to get a win and although we couldn’t quite manage that I thought it was an incredible team effort and a wonderfully mature performance by a group of young players.

“Earlier this season we were winning games through the sheer number of opportunities we created but both teams here were very well organised and nullified the strengths of the opposition. We had to be very disciplined throughout and it was really encouraging we proved that we can get points in a different manner.

“It was a proper game of football, very intense and on the edge, and although neither side created many clear opportunities, I always thought we were the more likely team to get a goal.

"When they scored we actually had a grip on the game at the time so it was very much against the run of play but the great thing for me was the brilliant way in which we responded – we didn’t lose our composure and we continued to play to our philosophy.

“It would have been a travesty not to have taken something out of the game and when we scored I really thought we could go on and get the winner – we were certainly the team on the front foot at that stage.

“The atmosphere in the stadium was brilliant throughout but Wolves were playing under that pressure of expectation and we tried to take advantage of that.

“Every one of my players gave their all for the shirt –their commitment was superb and they were so unselfish, covering for each other whenever someone was out of position. I was very, very proud of them and I’m sure the fans were, too.”
