City Boss On His Decision To Keep Andy Webster On

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley admitted that he gambled on Andy Webster after the defender was cautioned and then received a ticking off from referee Mike Dean, a minute later.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, the City boss said: “I seriously considered making a change for the second half because I was concerned.

“Neil McFarlane and I discussed the situation and decided that Andy only had one more foul in him so it was a clear risk, but we didn’t want to lose that strength and physical presence that he gives us.

“I spoke to him during the interval and told him that he couldn’t afford to take any chances but he was confident he could see out the game and I have to say that he handled the situation brilliantly.

“He did what he had to do when the ball came his way but even in the closing stages, when they were putting us under a bit of pressure, he never put a foot out of place.”

“He’s playing really well just now – he gets his head to a lot of corners and he’s developing a really good partnership with Jordan Clarke in the middle.”
