Surprise names among the eight

Up to eight players have been told by Coventry City manager Stephen Pressley that they do not figure in his plans for the coming season.

Among the surprise names on the list are those of Stephen Jennings, who played a significant role last season, started 45 games along with four substitute appearances. The 28 year old arrived last season on a free transfer from Motherwell and is thought to have at least one year left to run on his contract.

Another surprise departure is that of Coventry Academy graduate Jordan Clarke. The right back lost his place to Cyrus Christie following a season long injury absence. Striker Cody McDonald, who was sent out on loan when Pressley arrived at the club, only to be recalled later, is another player told he can leave.

Central defender William Edgenguele, goalkeeper Chris Dunn, defender Kevin Malaga and midfielders Gary McShefffrey and David Bell make up the eight.

It is understood that none of the released players have yet found new clubs and those who are still under contract with Coventry City will report tomorrow at the Ryton training ground for the start of pre-season training. The unwanted players will train separately from the rest of the squad.
